Big Sioux Canoe Trip

We finally turned canoeing on the Big Sioux River into a two day affair. We launched in Egan, SD. and paddled to Trent, South Dakota. This first leg of our trip took about 4 hours. There is a nice little private campground right on the river in Trent, that makes a perfect place to stop, camp and relax around the fire with friends. Earth Day Canoe & Kayak Regatta

On Saturday, April 19th, the South Dakota Canoe & Kayak Club, along with the Sierra Club of Sioux Falls, held the Earth Day Canoe & Kayak Regatta. This year's event was once again held on the Big Sioux River. Our starting point was one mile north of Flandreau, on Hwy 13, and we took out roughly 7 miles downstream and 2 hours later in the Flandreau City Park.

Hiking At Palisades State Park

Our Sunday afternoon was spent hiking and exploring the trails of Palisades State Park. It was our first time there and well worth the 15 minute drive from Sioux Falls. The park is so serene and peaceful, and the relatively easy hike to the top of the cliff walls provides a spectacular view of the area. Boating on the Missouri River

Most our weekends are spent on the Missouri River with family and friends in the summer.  It is the simplest and most enjoyable way to spend the day/weekend!   We now own a camper, so we like to spend the whole weekend at the campground if possible.  It is a cheap and great get-a-way!
