DESCRIPTION:With assistance from the National Parks Foundation\, Jewel Cave
  National Monument is teaming up with an assortment of surrounding public 
 land agencies in order to provide an outdoor education event for Cub Scout
 s. The event consists of ten hands-on activities that relate to the natura
 l and cultural heritage of western South Dakota. Ranging from the use of m
 aps and compasses to learning safe techniques for hiking\, from understand
 ing diverse cultures to playing predator-prey games\, scout participants w
 ill be engaged through lively activities. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. a
 nd concludes at 4:00 p.m. The various programs last 45 minutes and are arr
 anged in a multi-station format. Cub Scouts may select five of the ten top
 ics and work toward completing the assignments. Upon completion of the eve
 nt\, the participating scouts earn belt loop awards through the Boy Scouts
  of America. Featured agencies include Mount Rushmore National Memorial. W
 ind Cave National Park\, Devils Tower National Monument\, Custer State Par
 k\, and the Black Hills National Forest. Other assistance comes from the B
 lack Hills Parks and Forests Association and Custer YMCA. Combined togethe
 r\, the Cub Scout Belt Loopalooza is one of the few special events in the 
 Black Hills truly focused on youth. \n\nThe Cub Scout Belt Loopalooza is t
 he only event of its kind within the Boy Scouts of America\, showcasing se
 veral partnerships with federal\, state\, and non-profit agencies. It comp
 lements the ever-popular Scout Ranger Program within the National Park Ser
 vice.
