South Dakota is known for it’s world-class hunting and hospitality.  We’re rolling out the orange carpet to welcome hunters this Rooster Rush season.  When planning your hunt, consider one of these Rooster Rush partner communities.


Rooster Rush in Aberdeen starts at the airport as local volunteers greet hunters upon arrival. Downtown merchants decorate windows and sidewalks as they paint the town orange, welcoming hunters and inviting them to bag a banded bird that could be worth $1 million.

Huron, South Dakota is Ringneck Nation! Here billboards, building banners and hundreds of friendly hosts welcome hunters. Outdoorsmen and women can also participate in special contests and promotions held at individual businesses.

Hunters will find plenty of pheasants and plenty of Rooster Rush activities when they come to Mitchell, South Dakota. Special Rooster Rush door hangers, welcome banners and painted sidewalks create a festive atmospheres in the town that’s home to Cabela’s and the World’s Only Corn Palace.

South Dakota’s Capital City celebrates Rooster Rush in a big way – right down to blaze orange city council meetings. Enjoy special opening weekend events for the whole family and visit local merchants ready to welcome you to Pierre all season long.

Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, South Dakota’s largest city, is home to the biggest airport and a sea of blaze orange every pheasant season. Come kick off your Rooster Rush hunt with a special terminal welcome, filled with local vendor booths, Rooster Rush gifts and pheasant hunting festivities.

Watertown is painting the town orange with a community-wide celebration of Rooster Rush.  Stop by the big white tent, under the Rooster Rush flag, at the Cowboy Convenience store on US Highways 212 and 81, and enjoy refreshments, prizes and more.  Representatives from local hunting businesses, gear outfitters and the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks will be available for licensing and questions. Come get your picture with Ringneck the Pheasant, and enjoy a Watertown Rooster Rush welcome, Friday, Oct. 19th 11 AM-6 PM and Saturday morning as you leave for your hunt.
