PIERRE, S.D. – Save the date for the 2013 South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism, January 16-17, 2013, at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Pierre. All members of the state’s visitor industry are encouraged to attend the event, which is organized by the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
“Tourism has a tremendous impact on our state’s economy – to the tune of $1.8 billion each year. That impact is possible because of the hard work of South Dakota’s visitor industry,” said Jim Hagen, secretary of the Department of Tourism. “This conference is one tool the industry can use to keep up on industry trends, network with peers and examine best practices.”
In addition to expert-led sessions, there will be a banquet on Thursday evening to present the annual tourism awards. Nomination forms for the Ben Black Elk Award and the A.H. Pankow Award are available at www.SDVisit.com. The deadline to submit a nomination is September 6, 2012.
“I encourage all members of the visitor industry to take advantage of this opportunity and attend the conference. It’s a time to re-connect with peers and brainstorm new ways to collaborate as an industry,” continued Hagen.
Industry members can visit www.SDVisit.com for tourism conference updates.
The South Dakota Department of Tourism is comprised of Tourism, the South Dakota Arts Council, and the South Dakota State Historical Society. The Department is led by Secretary James D. Hagen.
