The public is invited to attend a Ribbon Cutting and Open House celebrating the management partnership of the Oahe Dam Visitor & Interpretive Center, between the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Great Lakes of SD Tourism Association. The event will be held Friday, May 11, 2012, from 1-3 p.m. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Oahe Dam Operations Project Manager Eric Stasch, SD Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen and the Great Lakes Tourism Board of Directors, with the open house to follow. The Oahe Dam Visitor & Interpretive Center is located above the Oahe Dam, five miles outside of Pierre.
Great Lakes of SD Tourism offices relocated April 1 to the Visitor Center, which will result in the center being open year around. It’s a perfect partnership according to Karen Kern, Executive Director of Great Lakes of SD Tourism Association, “The Corps of Engineers is the managing arm of the Missouri River in South Dakota and Great Lakes of SD Tourism promotes the recreational & cultural aspects of the Missouri River – a great match.”
The Visitor Center will carry informational material from Great Lakes of SD Tourism members, Corps of Engineers, South Dakota Tourism and Game, Fish & Parks. Visitors stopping at the center will find information that will help them with their vacation, should it be along the river or any part of South Dakota.
