DEADWOOD, S.D. (9/1/11) -- The Beach Boys, comic Sinbad, the Four Tops and The Temptations, The New Christy Minstrels under the direction of Randy Sparks -- with special guest Barry McGuire -- and Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone and Davy Jones of the Monkees will all be performing at Deadwood Mountain Grand in October.
Dubbed “Grand Ole October”’ the series begins with the Beach Boys on Sunday, Oct. 2, and ends with Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, and Davy Jones on Friday, Oct. 21. Also, tickets to the performance of The New Christy Minstrel under the direction of Randy Sparks are $10 if you buy a full-price ticket to any of the other performances.
“For Grand Ole October we’ve booked a full slate of music and entertainment to suit a variety of tastes,” said Deadwood Mountain Grand President and General Manager Tim Brown. “These performers are all entertainment veterans, and they know how to put on a show. Tickets to one or more of the Grand Ole October shows would be a great Grandparents Day gift on Sept. 11. They may want cards or flowers, but they will definitely want tickets for a Grand Ole October.”
* The Beach Boys will play at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. Tickets are $49. The Beach Boys have been recording and performing together since 1961 -- 50 years of music. Their vocal harmonies and musical innovations introduced the free-wheeling Southern California lifestyle to people all over the world. Their top hits include “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Good Vibrations,” and “Kokomo.”
* Sinbad performs at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7. Tickets are $35. His observational and surreal humor has made him a favorite on the standup circuit and landed him on Comedy Central. He became nationally known in the 1990s with his own feature television series called “The Sinbad Show.” He has starred in several movies including “Necessary Roughness,” “Houseguest,” “First Kid” and “Jingle All the Way.” He currently stars in his television show, “Sinbad: It’s Just Family.”
* The Four Tops and The Temptations will play 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. Tickets to the show are $45. The Four Tops came out of Detroit, Mich., with an act strong on vocal harmonies and a variety of genres including doo-wop, soul, R&B, disco, rock and show tunes. Their well-known hit singles include “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There.”
The Temptations, also from Detroit, are one of the most successful groups in the history of Motown Records. Their recordings ha
