Entertainment Set for Badger Clark Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering

Hot Springs, SD—The 14th Annual Badger Clark Poetry and Music Gathering will be held on Sept 23rd and 24th  in Hot Springs, SD. The gathering was named by American Cowboy magazine as top three poetry events in the nation. This year’s entertainment will feature former RCA recording artist, Pake McEntire and 2010 Poet of the Year Ken Cook.
 
Pake McEntire started performing in the 1970’s with sisters Reba McEntire and Susie Luchsinger. He has toured the United States and parts of Canada since the early 1980’s, landing three top-twenty hits on Billboard’s Country Charts. A true cowboy, Pake is a successful rancher and Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association steer roper. McEntire is a singing fiddle player and loves real country songs with a lot of good, easy-listening country ballads.
 
Audience will be entertained by featured poet Ken Cook of Martin, SD. Cook was recently named the 2010 Academy of Western Artists Cowboy Poet of the Year. His work has been published in IM Cowgirl, Open Rangeand Rope Burns magazines and on radio stations across the West, including Joe Baker's Backforty Bunkhouse, Jim and Andy Nelson's Clear Out West radio show, and Totsie Slover's Real West from the Old West.
 
Master of Ceremonies and entertainer for the poetry gathering is fourth generation rancher, Robert Dennis from Red Owl, SD. Dennis has performed at numerous poetry gathering around the country and has been published in the western magazines such as Cowboy Magazine. In addition, Dennis will lend a helping hand at the Bunk House Tales, a cowboy poetry open mic session on Sept. 23rd and the writer’s workshop on Saturday morning, Sept. 24th.
 
Musical act Stephanie Ann will perform both as a solo act and as duet on stage with McEntire. Stephaine started performing on stage with McEntire two years ago as a back-up singer and has since evolved into an up-and-coming solo artist in country music. 
 
Slim McNaught will head up the Writer's Workshop with Robert ("Jingle Bob") Dennis on Sat. morning as well as being a featured guest poet on Sat. evening's program. McNaught hails from New Underwood, SD and has been reciting cowboy poetry for a number of years. In 2009, Slim’s poetry CD “Reminiscin” was named Cowboy CD/Album of the year by the Academy of Western Artists. McNaught has published four cowboy and poetry books and two CD’s. He also writes a monthly column of for
cowboypoetry.com and cowboys-n-cowgirls.com.
 
The Badger Clark Poetry and Music Gathering is an annual event in Hot Springs, SD to honor the life and legacy of entertainer Badger Clark. Badger Clark was a pioneer to the cowboy poetry craft. He wrote such poems as the “Cowboy’s Prayer” and was also a published author of cowboy short stories. Clark made his home in Hot Springs from 1937-1957.
 
The poetry and music gathering will begin on Friday, September 23rd with the Bunk House Tales at 7:00 pm. Saturday will begin with a writers workshop at 9:30 am-11:00 am followed by an Open Session at 2 p.m. The Bader Clark Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering evening performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a meet and greet following the show.
