PIERRE, S.D. – First Lady Linda Daugaard announced today that public tours of the Governor’s Mansion will begin on Wednesday, June 22.

“Dennis and I want to welcome visitors to see this beautiful home,” said Mrs. Daugaard.  “We are honored to live here, but this home belongs to all South Dakotans and we want to share it with them.”

The First Lady had earlier announced that the home would be open for tours each Wednesday this summer, beginning on June 1, but those plans were put on hold because of the Missouri River flood situation in Pierre.

“I hope people from across the state will take this opportunity to visit Pierre and see the Governor’s Mansion,” said Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill.  “While we continue to protect against flooding, our community is open for business and we hope to welcome visitors to see the Mansion, the State Capitol, and all that Pierre has to offer.”

Beginning on June 22, weekly public tours will be conducted each Wednesday in June, July, and August.  The 30-minute tours, for groups of up to 30 people, will begin at 10 a.m. CDT, 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m., and will be conducted by volunteers, including the First Lady.

Those interesting in arranging a tour should contact the Pierre Chamber of Commerce at 605-224-7361.
