Sioux Falls, SD - On Sunday, May 8th, 2011 the 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Powwow will take place in downtown Sioux Falls at the Multi-Cultural Center located on Main Avenue. The People of the Plains Wacipi Society are hosting the Mother’s Day Powwow which started in Sioux Falls last year. Prior to last year’s event the Powwow was held in Aberdeen for 13 years. It moved to Sioux Falls when the coordinator of the Powwow relocated to the city. The People of the Plains Wacipi Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting positive relations between the American Indian and non-Indian communities.
The Powwow will host two meals for the mothers and grandmothers with entertainment from World Champion Hoop Dancer Jasmine Pickner, member of the Crow Creek Sioux tribe. A Princess Contest and Sobriety Freedom Walk are also part of the Powwow. The Sobriety Freedom Walk will begin at starting at the Falls Park Open Air Shelter, North of Falls Park, and will conclude at the Multi-Cultural Center on Main Avenue.
