PIERRE, S.D. – Save the date for the 2011 South Dakota Governor’s Conference on Tourism, January 19-20, 2011, at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Pierre. All members of the state’s visitor industry are encouraged to attend the event, which is organized by the South Dakota Office of Tourism.
“Each year tourism has a $2.4 billion impact on our state’s economy. That is certainly thanks to the hard work of South Dakota’s visitor industry,” said Richard Benda, Secretary for the Department of Tourism and State Development. “This conference is one tool we have for helping out tourism partners drive the economy and continue to lead the nation in innovative strategies.
The conference will provide industry members with an opportunity to examine best practices, network with peers, and learn the best ways to succeed in coming years. In addition to expert-led sessions, there will be a banquet on Thursday evening to present the annual tourism awards. Nomination forms for the Ben Black Elk Award and the A.H. Pankow Award are available at www.SDVisit.com
. The deadline to submit a nomination is September 2, 2010.
“The industry should definitely take advantage of this great opportunity and attend the event. It’s a time to give recognition to members of the industry, and provides opportunities to attend some high-quality educational sessions,” said Melissa Miller, Director of the Office of Tourism.
