This year’s Pepsi Racing Power Cup Challenge presented by River City Racin’, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 19-20, at Chamberlain/Oacoma, S.D., has been cancelled due to unexpected floodwaters.

Plans are under way to continue the event in 2011.
Reports of debris in the river, as well as rising Missouri River water levels, have put the race site in jeopardy. Officials say area resources are being used for local infrastructure needs and ensuring public safety during this time of high water.
Event organizers say spectator and race-team safety were primary factors in the decision to cancel the hydroplane boat races.
RiverCity Racin’ assessed all options with the assistance and input from multiple agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Dakota Department of Game, Fish & Parks, BruleCounty and Buffalo County Emergency Management, and city officials from Chamberlain and Oacoma.
The volunteer board of River City Racin’ said it was “with great disappointment” that it had to cancel the races. The event organizers say they are grateful for continued community, statewide and sponsor support of the races and are looking forward to a bigger and better event in 2011.
Tickets and party pods purchased for this year’s event will be redeemable for the 2011 event. Questions can be directed to
