Dock Dogs make splash at Outdoor Expo
PIERRE, S.D. – The third annual South Dakota Outdoor Expo, one of South Dakota’s Great Events of 2010, will be held in Huron at the State Fair grounds June 12-13, 2010, and will feature the DockDogs competition.
The competition includes three events. The Big Air Wave competition judges dogs on how far they jump after running down a 40 foot dock and diving after an object in the water. The Extreme Vertical is a high-jump style competition. The Speed Retrieve judges dogs on how fast they can run down the dock, retrieve an object in the water and swim back to a finishing point.
The DockDogs competition is open to people of all ages, and any breed of dog. Teams will be comprised of one dog and one handler.
DockDogs is the independent governing and sanctioning body of canine dock jumping, dock diving, and canine performance sports. The competitions will be held on both Saturday and Sunday during the Expo.
In addition to the DockDogs competition, there will be more than 30 hands-on activities open to all ages in five areas:
Camping and Outdoor Recreation
Hunting and Wildlife
Fishing and Aquatic Education
“The South Dakota Outdoor Expo is designed to celebrate the wonderful resources we have in the outdoors in our state,” said Candi Hettinger, Outdoor Expo Organizer. “
