South Dakota is known for its scenic variety. You’ll find rolling prairies, colorful river bluffs and towering granite peaks. 

You’ll also find an underground world of sparkling calcite crystals, intricate boxwork and rare geological formations at Wind Cave National Park and Jewel Cave National Monument.  To learn more about South Dakota’s unique geology, also visit the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research  and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
