In South Dakota, you’ll find a variety of scenery, plenty of adventures and family-friendly, affordable fun. Here are four unique ways you can make lasting family memories on your South Dakota vacation.

1. Camp under the stars. South Dakota has campgrounds all across the state where you’ll find water activities and hiking trails. Roast marshmallows, tell stories and enjoy family time at a campsite near a South Dakota lake, river or in the middle of the Black Hills. Make your camping plans today.

2. Horseback ride along the Missouri River.  Rolling river bluffs, native prairie grasses and fields of colorful wild flowers await you as you ride horseback along the shores of the Missouri River. Follow the Lewis and Clark trail or blaze your own as you give your family an authentic western vacation.  Find an outfitter.

3. Wildlife and a chuckwagon supper in Custer State Park.  This is something you can only do in South Dakota. Discover the abundance of  animals in Custer State Park with a drive on the Wildlife State Scenic Byway (SD Highways 87 and 16A). You’ll encounter roaming buffalo, deer, bighorn sheep and the famous begging burros.  After a day exploring, enjoy a chuckwagon supper inside the park.  Discover what else Custer State Park has to offer.

4. Have an outdoor adventure.  A great way to bond with each other is to take a hike along rolling prairies or through the ponderosa pines of the Black Hills. Canoeing or kayaking on a river or lake is another family bonding opportunity you can experience in South Dakota.
