PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota businesses have an opportunity to boost their public relations efforts through a cooperative marketing program with the South Dakota Office of Tourism.
The Tourism Office is offering a multi-media press release program to help visitor industry partners put their stories in front of the media, and in turn, thousands of potential travelers who plan to visit South Dakota’s attractions, lodges and events.
The multi-media press release combines the traditional press release format with social media elements that include photos, videos and social bookmarking links like Digg and Google Bookmark.
“The Office of Tourism distributed ten of these releases in 2009, which resulted in more than 80 articles and broadcast segments about South Dakota and reached an audience of more than 500,000 people,” said Richard Benda, secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development. “This type of release has proved to be a valuable resource for sharing the South Dakota story with a national audience.”
Through the partnership with the Tourism Office, a participating business gains:
A customized media distribution list
Technical assistance in developing and writing the release
Five downloadable, high-resolution photos (300 dpi/JPEG format)
A 30-second video clip (Windows Media or QuickTime)
Analytics report to determine success and return on investment
Applications are now being accepted. The deadline to apply for the co-op effort is Feb. 26, 2010.
Applications will be reviewed and approved by members of the Media and Public Relations team within the Office of Tourism. Ten partner businesses will be selected. Each business partner will be limited to one release. There is a fee to participate. Each approved partner will be notified by March 26, 2010.
