  4. River City Racin’ – Chamberlain, S.D. – July 10-11, 2010
The Great Events campaign is a competitive program developed by the South Dakota Office of Tourism. The campaign is designed to boost visitor spending and increase the economic impact of the events in host communities.
“The Great Events campaign helps to promote events that are unique to our state,” said Richard Benda, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development. “These events provide family-friendly and affordable vacations that appeal to both local and out-of-state visitors.”
Events named to the Great Events campaign receive marketing assistance from the Office of Tourism in the areas of creative design, photography, ad placement, and public relations.
Nineteen communities across the state applied this year for the Great Events campaign.
“Although, not every applicant could be named a Great Event, we’re very encouraged by the number of quality applicants we received this year,” said Office of Tourism Director  Melissa Bump. “There truly are exciting events happening all across the state.”
