HISTORIC HOMESTAKE OPERA HOUSE (7/17/2009) – The blues are coming to the Homestake Opera House in Lead, S.D. The first annual Roots and Blues Fest, led by Grammy-nominee guitarist Randy McAllister, will hit the historic Opera House on July 26, 2009. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Homestake Opera House’s restoration efforts.
The Roots and Blues Fest will also feature Buddy Whittiting and Black Hills favorite Brandon Sprague Blues Band. Whittiting is the former guitarist for the John Mayall Band, who’s band also produced the likes of Eric Clapton and Cocoa Montoya. Leading the Roots and Blues Fest is Randy McAllister, who has nine albums to his credit and has composed over 200 original pieces.
McAllister says the Roots and Blues Fest in Lead will encompass musical selections heavy on the blues genre, but will also include “Tex-Mex, soul, country, and everything in between.” McAllister also believes the Opera House to be one of the best concert venues in the area, and invites everyone to come and enjoy the historic atmosphere and world-class music.
The event begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26. Tickets are $25 and are available at the door, with a portion of the proceeds going back to help restore the Homestake Opera House. Call the Opera House at (605) 584-2067 for more information on the Roots and Blues Fest. Check out Randy McAllister at
