DEADWOOD (07/09/2009) – The 87th annual Days of ’76 Celebration in Deadwood, S.D. will be held July 21-25, 2009. Mac Meyer, president of the Deadwood Days of ’76 Board of Directors, also announces there will be an evening performance on Saturday, July 25.
“We are excited to inform the public of the events and changes at this year’s celebration,” Meyer said. “We are gearing up for another great event and hoping to again be considered for the PRCA Rodeo of the Year Award. We also feel that changing the Sunday afternoon performance to Saturday evening will end the rodeo with an exciting, top-contestant performance in Historic Deadwood.”
The Days of ’76 Rodeo won the Small Rodeo of the Year Award from 1999-2002, and the PRCA Medium Rodeo of the Year each year since 2004.
The rodeo this year will kick off with PRCA steer roping at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21. The steer roping this year will again feature all the top PRCA steer ropers. Tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping slack will begin on Wednesday, July 22 at 8 a.m., with more timed event slack on Thursday, July 23, also at 8 a.m.
The barrel racing slack will be held following the timed-event slack on Thursday, July 23. Rodeo performances will be held on Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24 beginning at 7 p.m., followed by 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances on Saturday, July 25. Meyer expects that over 600 of the top PRCA contestants will take part in this year’s Days of ’76 events, and will compete for the Committee’s Purse, which in 2009 will exceed $47,000.
The mile-long historic parades will again be held on Friday, July 24 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 25 at 10 a.m.
