MADISON, S.D. - The second annual Motongator Joe’s Country Music Festival is scheduled once again at the Prairie Village in Madison, SD, June 26-28, 2009.
With an already successful country music festival over 12 years old at his ranch in Michigan, and the great support of South Dakotans for his live touring show, festival organizer Motongator Joe saw not only the potential, but the need for country entertainment in South Dakota. After visiting a number of locations, Joe was introduced to the Prairie Village in Madison.
“I just felt it as soon as I walked on the grounds,” said Joe. “It spoke to me and brought together everything Motongator Joe’s Country Music Festival stands for: country living, family, life lessons, music and camping, but especially affordability for the blue collar, hardworking person.”
National country music acts, along with various local and regional talent, will be showcased over three days, thanks to the support of Knology, the Lake Area Improvement Corporation [LAIC], the South Dakota Office of Tourism’s Million Dollar Challenge, Jaycees, and other area businesses.
“We have enjoyed an overwhelming amount of support,” continued Joe. “If this year’s advance tickets and campsite reservations are keeping with the trend of last year’s pre-sales, we are poised to double, if not triple, the attendance numbers for the 2009 festival. More than 70% of this year’s advance ticket sales have been purchased by people from Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Texas.”
These attendance numbers, along with the featured lineup of entertainers, are showing exceptional promise. Artists at this year’s festival include Buddy Jewell, Michael Peterson, Merle Haggard Jr. [Noel Haggard], Tommy Horton, Honky Tonk Twisters and W.C. Edgar, among others.
