For the first time ever, the Professional Bull Riders will be in Rapid City for two action
packed nights, June 19 and 20, 2009.
Knology presents the Kody Lostroh Invitational PBR featuring the top bulls and riders of
the PBR.
Fans can expect more than two hours of high energy music, pyrotechnics, light shows,
and an up-close view of non-stop bull riding action. Tickets start at $15 and are on sale now at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center ticket office or online at www.gotmine.com.
“Tommy G Productions is privileged to bring this PBR event to a great facility like the
Rushmore Plaza Civic Center,” Tommy Giodone, event promoter said.“We’ll have the PBR’s top riders at this event. We’re extremely excited to have Kody Lostroh, the current number one rider in the world, endorse our event and put his name on it.” Giodone said.
In addition to performances by the top human and animal athletes in the sport, the
award-winning barrelman Flint Rasmussen will be on hand to elevate the evening’s
entertainment. “Everyone who knows the PBR knows Flint. His humor, dancing and antics play to everyone in the crowd. It’s been years since he’s been in Rapid City and he’s really looking forward to returning” Giodone said.
Select fans will also be able to enjoy the event from a whole new level in two fan cages
located inside the arena. These 10 foot diameter metal cages are equipped with swivel chairs, food, and beverage service giving extreme fans the opportunity to be eye level to the action. The fan cage seats are not for sale and will be available only through Rushmore Radio promotions and select in store drawings.
“The cage seating is just like being submerged in shark infested waters.” Giodone
explained. “The cages were originally used for television cameras but we thought it was
better suited for the fans. We were the first to use it a few years ago and the feedback
has been unbelievable.”
Fans at the Kody Lostroh Invitational will also be treated to a unique arena configuration
featuring 12 bucking chutes in total. “We like to buck bulls at both ends of the arena--that way there’s not a bad seat in the house and everyone has action right in front of them all during the event.” Giodone said.
About the PBR:
The Professional Bull Riders, Inc., was founded in 1992 by 20 accomplished bull riders
who joined together and took a business risk to try make bull riding – the most popular
event in traditional rodeo – into a stand-alone sport. Each rider chipped in $1,000 to help launch his dream of someday seeing bull riders recognized as mainstream professional
athletes.
As of April 23, 2007, Spire Capital Partners, L.P., a private equity firm based out of New
York, became partner and majority investor in the PBR. Randy Bernard, Ty Murray, Tom
Teague and all the Directors of the PBR will continue as shareholders. Fifteen of the
shareholders are among the elite 45 riders currently on the BFTS tour, which will help
preserve the tradition originally started by the cowboys in 1992.
The PBR is headquartered in Pueblo, Colo., and has over 1,200 bull riders competing in more than 300 PBR sanctioned competitions in the United States, Australia, Brazil,
Canada, and Mexico. PBR currently operates four domestic tours, including the Built
Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company
Challenger Tour, Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tour and Discovery Tour, and has a rapidly
growing presence in international markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Australia and
Canada.
PBR competitions can be viewed regularly on its cable channel partner, VERSUS, every
Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
