RAPID CITY, S.D. The third annual Festival of Presidents will take place June 27-28, 2008, in Rapid City. The festival is one of five Great Events promoted by the South Dakota Office of Tourism.

The Festival of Presidents features entertainment for visitors of all ages. Attendees can take in the arts and crafts show, hear live music, and watch a parade in downtown Rapid City. This year’s event also features a children’s show.

The festival began as a way to celebrate the City of Presidents project in downtown Rapid City. This ongoing project involves placing statues of all past presidents throughout downtown Rapid City as an artistic way to promote economic development.

For additional information, including a full schedule of events, contact the Rapid City Downtown Association at (605) 355-0505 or More information is available at

The 2008 Great Events were selected based on visitor appeal, growth potential and length of the event. The selection process includes an application and proposal, submitted by event coordinators for consideration by the South Dakota Office of Tourism.

The Festival of Presidents is part of the Office of Tourism’s 2008 Great Events program, which is part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota.
