PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Office of Tourism will begin showcasing everything South Dakota in a new press release series titled "In Your Own Backyard." From the great food, people and attractions, to the distinctive shops and events, the office wants to highlight the many unique travel opportunities and stories in South Dakota.
"South Dakota is filled with the unique people, places and events that make it a premier destination for travelers from all around the world," said Department of Tourism and State Development Secretary Richard Benda. "With the support of the industry, we can continue to prove that South Dakota really is the land of Great Faces and Great Places."
The press release series will begin Wednesday, April 2. Members of the South Dakota tourism industry were asked to fill out an application for inclusion in the series. Criteria included:
- Religious, political functions, bake sales, church events, etc. are not eligible
- Must have visitor appeal
- Must be open to the public
- Must be South Dakota specific
Entries will continue to be accepted throughout the year. An application form may be obtained by calling the South Dakota Office of Tourism. There is no fee for submission.
The In Your Own Backyard series is part of Goal 1 of the 2010 Initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota.
