Media and Trade Blitzes Get Message Out to Key Markets

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Office of Tourism will meet with media outlets and travel agents in key markets in the next two months.
“Face-to-face communication with media and travel agents is essential to building strong, working relationships that foster valuable third-party publicity and knowledge of the state’s travel opportunities,” said Department of Tourism and State Development Secretary Richard Benda.
The media and public relations team will visit Minneapolis, March 3-8, in conjunction with the office’s Great Neighbor Getaway promotion, aimed specifically at Minnesotans.  The team plans to meet with media outlets in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The media and public relations team also plans to visit with national travel media outlets in Washington,D.C. and New York City, April 21-25. The team will approach each outlet with a specifically tailored message regarding travel to South Dakota.
The Office of Tourism’s trade sales team, in partnership with representatives from South Dakota’s Convention and Visitors Bureaus, will meet with various travel agents and group tour operators to share what’s new in South Dakota travel for 2008, while educating them on travel opportunities in South Dakota.  The team will travel to Minneapolis, March 10-14, and Omaha and Sioux City, March 31-April 4.
The media and trade blitzes are part of Goal 1 of the 2010 Initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota.
