HOT SPRINGS, S.D. - The festivities this year include dancing, games, raffles, and an art auction. The menu offers prime rib, shrimp, or Roasted Red Bell Pepper and Spinach lasagna.
Tickets for the event are $ 35.00 for single and $65.00 for a couple, and are available at Black Hills Books and Treasures in Hot Springs or, by calling 745-6726.
Last year's event raised funds for the Fall River Falls Mural located on Black Hills Books Memories building in Hot Springs was painted by Ross Burden, with assistance from Hot Springs school students Louisa Burden and apprentice, Cassidy Schoenfelder.
"The number of projects we can do is directly related to the amount of funds we raise at Evening of Wine and Roses," says Gloria Aspinall, CDO president. The new mural will be painted by Mike Tuma and will celebrate Hot Springs 125th anniversary. It will pay homage to the sandstone buildings and the people who built them.
"Because we are a new organization, this is our second year; we are not eligible to receive funds from popular arts grants offered by state agencies and private foundations. As a result all our monies are raised locally through this event, the sales of our commemorative medallions that feature Hot Springs historic Sandstone School, and private donations. The Hot Springs Alumni Association made it possible for Artist Apprentices to work on the project," explains Aspinall. "If funds are available we are looking at having artist in residence projects which will include a Paint Out, and a mural painted by Hot Springs High School Students."
