Sioux Falls, SD (1/24/08)

– The Husby Series performance season at the Washington Pavilion once again offers a world class performance with which to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m., Feb. 14, 2008 on the classic opera, The Barber of Seville, presented by Teatro Lirico D’Europa.

The music of this immortal work by Rossini is instantly recognizable, making this one of the world’s most popular operas. The storyline sparkles with wit and humor as ardent Count Almaviva falls in love with Rosina, the pretty ward of Doctor Bartolo, who wants to marry her himself. Disguises, scheming and trickery combine for a thoroughly enjoyable comic feast. The performance will include English super-titles.

Teatro Lirico D'Europa has developed a strong history of success with hundreds of rave reviews for full-scale opera productions presented in theaters and at festivals across the United States and Europe. Sponsors for The Barber of Seville are Home Federal Bank, DM & E Railroad. Media sponsors include KELO TV, KSOO AM, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting.

Prior to the performance a Performance Insight will be held on the 3rd floor lobby of the Pavilion. Supported by the South Dakota Humanities Council, the presentation begins at 6:15 p.m. and will feature Dr. Emily Wood Toronto, Co-Artistic Director of the Heartland Opera Company.

Leonardo's Cafe in the Washington Pavilion will be open beginning at 5 p.m. before the performance and will offer a special Valentine's Day buffet dinner for $11.95 + tax. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Reservations are recommended; call 605-731-2384.
