PIERRE, S.D. - First Lady Jean Rounds will host the First Lady's Prairie Art Showcase from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Ramkota RiverCentre in Pierre.
Thirty-six artists have been invited to display their works at this year's event. Art subjects include wildlife, nature, landscapes, contemporary and traditional Native American, animals, florals, cityscapes and people.
"The art showcase gives South Dakota artists the opportunity to share their extraordinary talents with the public,” said First Lady Jean Rounds. "It is my honor to bring together such a gifted group."
Each artist will donate a piece of artwork, which will be available for drawings. The public can register at the art showcase.
In conjunction with the art showcase, a pumpkin decorating workshop for 50 children and adults will be held in the Courtyard from 12:30-2 p.m. Reptile Gardens will give demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Amphitheatre II. Scrappin’ Ladies will host two classes of 15 each, ages 10 and older, at

Visitors may also test their aim with the LaserShot shooting simulator offered by the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. All activities are free and open to the public.
The First Lady’s Prairie Art Showcase is part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota. The Office of Tourism serves under the direction of Richard Benda, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development.
