PIERRE, S.D. – The Fort Sisseton Historical Festival and Hill City Western Heritage Festival have been selected as the 2008 Top 100 Events by the American Bus Association (ABA).
“Our office is very excited to see both festivals receive this top 100 selection,” said Billie Jo Waara, director, South Dakota Office of Tourism. “Both festivals give visitors another reason to spend time in South Dakota.”
The Fort Sisseton Historical Festival takes place at Fort Sisseton Historical State Park near Lake City. The three day event includes a variety of historic, cultural and military-related events. The event will be held June 6-8, 2008.
The Hill City Western Heritage Festival takes place September 22-23, 2008, and includes music and cultural heritage activities. The two day event introduces visitors to old time craft demonstrations and “back in time” experiences.
The Top 100 Events began as a way for motorcoach operators to incorporate new products into their itineraries. It has since grown to one of the most sought-after lists by travel professionals, motorcoach operators and the general public. The list highlights the top fairs, festivals, parades, exhibits, theater and shows across the United States and Canada.
The 2008 Top 100 Events in North America is published as a supplement to the September/October issue of
Destinations magazine. A description of the event and contact information is included in the publication. For more information visit ABA’s Web site at
www.buses.org.
The efforts of the Office of Tourism are part of Goal 1 of the 2010 initiative to double visitor spending in South Dakota. The Office of Tourism serves under the direction of Richard Benda, Secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development.
