Schedule for Mount Rushmore Fireworks Media Events

News crews are invited to visit the Memorial at any time, but there will be four scheduled media events in preparation for the Tuesday, July 3, Independence Day Celebration.
When: Thursday, June 28, at 10 a.m.
What: Opportunity to view highline tramway used to transport fireworks and equipment to the top of the sculpture.
Where: Meet at the Grand View Terrace. (Park in the Presidential Parking Lot.)

Interviews: National Park Service staff and, depending on their workload, Zambelli Fireworks Internationale staff
 
When: Friday, June 29, at 10 a.m.
What: Fireworks set-up on top of the Memorial. Media representatives will have the opportunity to hike to the top of the memorial.
Where: Meet at the Grand View Terrace. (Park in the Presidential Parking Lot.)
Images: Crews preparing fireworks on top of the sculpture. Due to safety concerns, media representatives will be kept back from the actual fireworks.
Interviews: National Park Service staff and, depending on their workload, Zambelli Fireworks Internationale staff.
Note: The hike to the top is very strenuous! Pack light, bring water, sunscreen, and good hiking boots. (Consider sharing a tripod between news crews.)
 
When: Tuesday, July 3, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: Barbeque lunch provided to thank volunteer firefighters participating in the Independence Day Celebrations. Following lunch, there will be a briefing for firefighters before they leave for their assigned areas.
Where: Keystone Volunteer Fire Department, 1011 Madill St., Keystone, S.D.

When: Tuesday, July 3, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What: Opportunity to view festivities associated with July 3 Independence Day Celebration activities.
Where: Memorial Grounds. One parking space is being held in the Administration Lot for the media. Call 574-3147 (beginning Tuesday, June 26) to reserve the space for 60 minutes. We hope to be able to rotate through any media representatives that want to stop by to shoot or research a story. Plan for extended travel time to Mount Rushmore, as traffic into the Memorial will be slow.
