MOUNT RUSHMORE N.M., S.D. – One of the nation’s top rated fireworks displays will cap a full day of events on Tuesday, July 3rd, at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. A variety of musical performances and dance will take place throughout the day on four different stages beginning at 10 a.m.. The entire day’s celebration is dedicated to veterans and active duty members of the military.

"This is an all-day event for everyone in the family," said Mount Rushmore Superintendent Gerard Baker. "The Memorial will be alive with song and dance from a variety of cultures all celebrating the independence of our nation. We will have entertainment occurring simultaneously on multiple stages throughout much of the day, and the festivities will end with one of the country’s best fireworks shows."

At 9:20 p.m., a spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky over the Memorial for nearly a half hour. In case of inclement weather, the fireworks will be postponed to July 4th.

Enhanced security measures will be in place at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Visitors should plan to arrive early, expect delays, and be patient when approaching, entering, or leaving the Memorial. In previous years, the parking garage has filled around noon, and by early evening, the nearest parking was in Keystone, necessitating a 3-mile hike with an 800-foot elevation gain.

Superintendent Baker continued, "As in prior years, parking on Highway 244 will be restricted to the downhill side of the road. Carpooling is encouraged to reduce traffic delays, and people are reminded to bring a sweater or a coat along with a flashlight."

Wednesday, July 4, will see entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m. and concluding with the showing of the movie "Freedom – America’s Lasting Legacy" and sculpture illumination at 9 o'clock.
