SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – One of the new aspects of this year’s annual Pavilion Wellness Festival, to be held Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington Pavilion, downtown Sioux Falls, is the partnering with Avera McKennan as the naming sponsor thereby designating this year’s event as Avera McKennan’s Pavilion Wellness Festival. Admission to the wellness fair inside the Pavilion is free. A registration fee is required for participation in the run/walk events.

This year's event is bigger and better than ever. Along with the 5K run through downtown Sioux Falls, there are also 1 and 2 mile versions of the walk/run, perfect for families or those of us not quite up to a 5K this early in the season. The run begins at 9 a.m. and includes continental breakfast courtesy of Panera Bread. Awards for the 5K include age group medals. This year for the first time will feature $100 cash awards in the 5K first place Men's overall and Women's overall. All kids 12 and under in any of the three events will be entered into a drawing to win a cash award and a gift certificate from Scheels. All participants will receive an event t-shirt featuring the winning design from art submitted by young local artists. Following the run awards, two-time Olympic marathon runner Mike Dunlap will present "Training Principles" for anyone interested in taking their fitness to the next level.

Inside the Pavilion the festival will feature many health oriented vendors and providers. Free health screenings and testing, demonstrations and information will be offered. Additional activities include a golf swing cage and kid’s golf, a climbing wall, virtual bike racing, and a Tai Chi class. Attendees may also register to win a free bicycle provided by Spoke-N-Sport.  The Community Bloodbank will be on hand to accept donations in their bloodmobile. The CineDome will feature free viewings of the films Human Body at 12 noon and Wired to Win: Surviving the Tour de France at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and admission to the Kirby Science Discovery Center will be free during festival hours (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
