SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Sioux Falls has been selected to host the Firefighter Combat Challenge / Hy-Vee Midwest Regional Championships! The event will be held August 24-25, 2007 in Downtown Sioux Falls. This is the first time ever that this event has been held in Sioux Falls. It is estimated to create an economic impact of $169,000 to the community!
The local organizing committee consisting of Downtown Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and local firefighters partnered with the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) to bring this event to Sioux Falls.
The Challenge attracts hundreds of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments each year in approximately 25 locations and is seen by more than 30 million people worldwide. In addition to the Challenge, On Target will hold a “Kid’s Challenge,” a miniature version of the real thing. Fire prevention education and general safety education will be provided through this interactive community event.
Competitors will perform all of the following five tasks:
- Stair Climb
- Hose Hoist
- Forcible Entry
- Hose Advance
- Victim Rescue
All competitors must wear “full bunker gear”. And a Scott breathing apparatus simulating the physical demands of real life firefighting.
