SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In anticipation of demand, a third performance has been added for the smash Broadway Musical Hairspray coming to the Washington Pavilion as part of the Husby Series on May 15 – 16. The additional third night will be Thursday, May 17. The curtain goes up on each performance at 7 p.m. Tickets for the third night will go on sale on Saturday, March 17 at 9:30 a.m. Good seats are still available for the first two nights.
"The Washington Pavilion is having a terrific season with this year’s Husby Series,” says executive director and CEO Steve Hoffman. “The popularity of our presentations, especially the Broadway musicals, has been great and we want to use this opportunity to provide even more people in the community a chance to see this great musical. ”
Hairspray tells the story of a teenage girl living in 1962 Baltimore. With big dreams and even bigger hair she sets out to conquer the local television dance scene, woo the boy of her dreams and change the world.
Hairspray was the winner of eight Tony Awards in 2003, including Best Musical. The Broadway production continues to play to record crowds in Manhattan. In the upcoming movie version of the musical, John Travolta has been cast as the show’s large-sized matriarch, a role played by cross-dressing actor, Divine, in the original 1988 movie version directed by John Waters that also starred Pia Zadora, Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono, Ricki Lake.
