SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – One of Mozart’s most popular operas Le Nozze di Fiagaro, or The Marriage of Figaro comes to the Washington Pavilion as part of the Husby Series performance series on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. for an afternoon matinee. The performance featuring the Bulgarian State Opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles (overhead English translation on LED screen).
Mozart’s legendary opera tells of the madcap events surrounding the union of Figaro and Susanna, attendants to Count Almaviva and his lamenting wife. Join in the mayhem as the residents of the chateau Aguas Frescas near Seville tempt, trick and torment each other as the big day looms ever closer. Filled with flirtatious foolery and mistaken identities, this lighthearted opera is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
The Bulgarian State Opera was formerly known as the legendary Opera Verdi Europa. In August of 2005 the Bulgarian Parliament and the Ministry of Culture named the company the State Company of Bulgaria and bestowed upon them the title The Bulgarian State Opera. Rooted in great operatic tradition, the Bulgarian State Opera consistently presents unique productions that combine the best of the opera worlds of Bulgaria and all of Europe.
The Performance Insight beginning at 1:15 p.m. is in the third floor lobby. Julie Grives of the Heartland Opera Company and Emily Toronto, professor of music at South Dakota State University, will discuss this classic and help make sure audience members don’t miss a single punch-line in this hilarious tale. Supported by the South Dakota Humanities Council, Performance Insight pre-show discussions take place 45 minutes prior to all Husby Series performances and are free and open to the public.
