Faulk County: Great Hunting Grounds

PIERRE, S.D. – Hunting enthusiasts traveling to South Dakota in search of prime hunting grounds will find what they are looking for in Faulk County. Discover the communities of Faulkton, Cresbard, Seneca, Orient, Chelsea, Onaka, Norbeck, Miranda, Rockham, Zell and Wecota.

The community of Faulkton became the county seat in 1886 when the railroad by-passed the former county seat of Lafoon. The former community is now designated by a historic marker five miles east of Faulkton.

Hunting enthusiasts travel to South Dakota from across the nation for the state’s wealth of wildlife. Faulk County is a prime destination within the state for those in search of excellent pheasant gaming. Discover native wildlife in the Gerkin State Wildlife Refuge and the Lake Faulkton State Game Refuge.

The Missouri River is not far from the county’s western border. The “Mighty Mo” is renowned for its wealth of recreational opportunities. The biggest draw to this water wonderland is the excellent fishing opportunity.

Those with a more historical edge will discover the Pickler Mansion. The restoration of this historical building commemorates John Pickler, South Dakota's first United States Congressman.
