Pavilion Holiday Returns to Jump Start Season
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A Pavilion Holiday Festival will kick off Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with a sneak preview and wine tasting social with gourmet appetizers and a chance for participants to get the first opportunity to shop the marketplace and acquire pottery from the Tea for Two exhibit. The fourth annual holiday fundraiser includes new additions from previous years' events. This year's festival features an expanded marketplace, including vendors of hand crafted gifts, and special family activities and events. All proceeds from the festival benefit programming in the Visual Arts Center.
The expanded marketplace opens to the public Friday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. and is free. At noon the always popular Luncheon and Style Show takes place in the 3rd floor lobby. Past attendees have enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the featured fashions give everyone great gift ideas and hints towards stepping out in style. This event has sold out the previous two years. The Luncheon and Style Show takes place Fri., Nov. 10 and Sat., Nov. 11 at noon.
New this year is the Kids' Winter Wonderland. While patrons browse the marketplace and the Visual Art Center galleries, their kids can enjoy pizza, create handmade keepsakes, participate in hands-on demonstrations and explore the Kirby Science Discovery Center.
Another new event is the Afternoon Tea Party, a special activity for parents and their children to slip up to the 3rd floor lobby for a nice getaway of delicious treats and a spot of tea, or soft drink.
Each year A Pavilion Holiday Festival has highlighted a specific art exhibit with sales benefiting the Visual Arts Center. This year's exhibit is Tea for Two: Ceramic Artists. Washington Pavilion Curator of Art, Howard Spencer challenged nine area artists to create teapots and related pieces especially for this exhibit using handmade high temperature stoneware and porcelain. All items are for sale, but will not be offered until the Sneak Preview event on Nov. 9. Featured in the exhibit are Carol Ceynowa, Jess Elofson, Thomas B. Clarke, Shannon Frewaldt, Travis Hinton, Gerry Punt, Cindy Reverts, Mike Hill, and Chris Nowatzki.
This year’s event will also include the return of Build Your Own Raffle. Tickets can be purchased for any combination of 24 exciting prize packages. The drawing will be held Sat. Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. Winners need not be present.
