KEYSTONE, S.D. – Mount Rushmore National Memorial will host radio personality Jeff Gould on February 12, 2006, at 2 pm in the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center Museum. Gould will present a program entitled “The Death of a President, the 36-Year Funeral of Abraham Lincoln” featuring a solid walnut replica of the Lincoln casket. This popular traveling exhibit focuses on Abraham Lincoln’s funeral and shows another side of the lore that surrounds this famous American. Gould stated, “One of America’s most beloved statesmen and heroic figures also had one of the largest and in some ways most bizarre funeral and interment ceremonies in the history of the world.” Along with the lecture and slide show presentation, Gould will feature an 1865 replica of the original casket in which Lincoln was laid to rest 36 years after his death as well as a replica flag of the period and brochures detailing the funeral. The presentation sponsored by the Mount Rushmore History Association and the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society is free to the public. The $8.00 parking fee applies.
