SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Washington Pavilion continues the new year with its ongoing Performance Series and the presentation of another award-winning Broadway musical. Thoroughly Modern Millie comes to the Great Hall on Tuesday, January 24 at 8 p.m. The winner of six 2002 Tony Awards – Best Musical, Best Actress, Best Featured Actress, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations and Best Costume Design – Thoroughly Modern Millie brings the Roaring Twenties to life in full-blown Broadway fashion. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited musical comedy that features two songs from the original 1967 film, four standards from the 1920’s and nine new songs. Be prepared to be whisked back to the time of moonshine, speakeasies, Charleston-trotting terpsichoreans, and dashing leading men. Set in 1922, the plot is a takeoff of the small town girl who hits the big city. Millie Dillmount moves to the Big Apple after fleeing the humdrum life of a country girl in Kansas. Millie’s got plans, including finding a man. She embarks upon her quest by shedding the drabness of her Midwestern manner for the modern edginess of a flapper; complete with bobbed hair and short skirts. Her prospective sugar daddy is her new boss for whom she is a stenographer. Millie takes up residence at the Priscilla Hotel for Women. Home is not what it appears to be, nor are the characters she encounters, and so begins the trials and tribulations of our femme fatale. Adapted from the 1967 movie that starred Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore and Carol Channing, Thoroughly Modern Millie the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and four Golden Globes. It won the Oscar for Best Original Music Score and a Globe for Channing as Best Supporting Actress. Tickets are $54, $42 and $27 + tax and can be purchased by calling the Pavilion box office at (605) 367-6000 or 1-877-WASHPAV. Or go on online to
