Artists of the Black Hills (ABH) Elect Officers

Make Plans for First Annual Art Show HILL CITY, S.D. – Recently organized Artists of the Black Hills (ABH) held a full membership meeting August 21, 2005 hosted by Blue Dog Framers and Gallery in Lead, South Dakota and elected the following officers and directors. Mick B. Harrison (Belle Fourche), President; Dale C. Lamphere (Sturgis), Vice President; Gail Crane (Hill City), Secretary; Jan Humphrey (Hill City), Treasurer and 3 at large Directors, Gary DuChateau (Hot Springs), D. George Prisbe (Lead) and John Lopez (Piedmont). John Lopez was also elected Marketing Director. "ABH now has a strong slate of officers and directors," says newly elected marketing director John Lopez, "Now it is time for the organization to start working on our common goal of presenting and promoting the excellent professional artists and artisans of the Black Hills region. The Black Hills artists rival artists any place in the U.S." he says, "and we need to make sure this message is carried beyond the Black Hills and South Dakota." December 4-31, 2005, Prairie Edge in historic downtown Rapid City will host the premier public art show that will feature individual works by each member of ABH. "This first showing should be one of the largest and best shows ever mounted featuring Black Hills regional artists and artisans," says marketing director John Lopez, "ABH members are excited and looking forward to presenting their work to the public." Earlier this summer over 40 members of ABH gathered at the foot of Mount Rushmore for their official organization portrait and to announce announce the new organization at a public press conference. "Mount Rushmore is one of the great symbols of the Black Hills region, and we felt it appropriate that our organization to have our pictures taken with Mount Rushmore in the background." Says Mick Harrison, newly elected President of the Organization. ABH is a diverse organization made up of professional artists, artisans, gallery owners and other interested parties with a common goal of establishing the Black Hills as a major art destination.
