From the Pokey Puppy to Information Guide: Volunteers Needed!
DEADWOOD, S.D. – Over 200 volunteers are needed to help with the 3rd Annual South Dakota Festival of Books on September 23-25, 2005. The Festival will be held in Deadwood and is an annual gathering of readers and writers in celebration of the literary arts. Presented by the South Dakota Center for the Book, a program of the South Dakota Humanities Council, the festival will feature over 85 national, state and local authors including U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, National Public Radio Talk of the Nation host Neal Conan, fiction writer Pete Dexter, tribal writer Vine Deloria, and “One Book South Dakota” author Kent Meyers.
Volunteers are needed to serve as panel moderators, give directions to festival events, dress as children’s book characters, run a/v equipment, assist with set-up and clean-up, help serve concessions, transport authors to/from the airport, assist with book signings and workshops, staff the author hospitality room, and much more. Volunteers are needed for 4-hour shifts.
