PIERRE, S.D. – Leaders of the top 100 travel companies associated with MLT Vacations Inc.®, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northwest Airlines Corporation, visit South Dakota Nov. 11-14. The South Dakota Office of Tourism and visitor industry partners are hosting the travel agents through the New Markets Initiative Committee of the Air Service Task Force. “This is a prime opportunity to showcase western South Dakota to some of the most successful travel agents in the business,” said Billie Jo Waara, director of the South Dakota Office of Tourism. “With the Black Hills’ diverse travel options ranging from the Shrine of Democracy to unique small towns, Old West culture to the natural splendor of Custer State Park, South Dakota has much to offer these visiting travel agents. After experiencing our state first-hand, they’ll be better equipped to sell the state to their clients.” The group will visit The Journey Museum Friday, Nov. 11 for a welcome reception. The agents will stay in Deadwood, visit area attractions and take part in activities like fly-fishing, nature photography, ATV rides through Black Hills National Forest, a tour of Deadwood and horseback riding. A reception will be held at Crazy Horse Memorial and a farewell dinner will take place at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The hosting is part of the 2010 Initiative to double visitor spending to $1.2 billion by establishing partnerships to pool resources and develop coordinated marketing plans.
