“Everyone in the visitor industry can benefit from a customer service training course, no matter how long they’ve been in the business,” said Jim Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism. “South Dakota is known for its outstanding hospitality, and it’s important that our front-line employees know how to take care of our visitors.”

High attendance numbers across the state reflect strong support for the visitor industry in South Dakota, which had an economic impact of nearly $2 billion on the state last year.

“Interest is high among South Dakotans in promoting tourism and welcoming visitors to the state,” Hagen added. “The visitor industry is dedicated to keeping South Dakota’s tourism strong.”

Participation in the Spring Hospitality Training Programs meets one of the requirements of the South Dakota Department of Tourism’s Great Service Star program.

State-wide hospitality training sessions have taken place every year since 1987.
