In conjunction with Black Hills Volksmarch Association, Sturgis will be hosting an Urban Volksmarch on May 11, 2013. Sturgis is celebrating its 125th Anniversary of incorporation, and what better way to celebrate history than to journey by many of the historical sites in the community. Volksmarch participants can choose either a 5K or 10K walk which will begin and end at the Stock Shelter in the City Park.
Among the historic locations walkers will have a chance to view are St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, Bear Butte Cemetery, St. Aloysius Church, historic Main St., Erskine Building, and many historic homes. A map of the route and a brochure detailing the historic buildings will be provided to all Volksmarch participants.
Walkers can start anytime between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, but must finish by 2:00 pm. There is a very small fee for participating.
