PIERRE, S.D. – The State of South Dakota extends an invitation to the soon-to-be newlywed royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, to honeymoon in the Black Hills, South Dakota, to celebrate their marriage.

“The Black Hills are the perfect destination for the royal couple,” remarks James D. Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism. “Whether it’s taking a peaceful drive along our 101 miles of scenic byway roads, relaxing in a lodge together over a glass of South Dakota wine, or getting their thrill of adventure, we know that they would enjoy themselves here. It’s quiet and private, it’s beautiful, and they would be in for a romantic get-away.”

Sky-piercing granite peaks, forested mountains, pristine lakes and creeks will greet the new couple upon arrival. The twisting scenic byways have been listed as some of the most beautiful drives in
America. The rich Native American culture will have the royal couple learning more about the sacred land of the Black Hills, and the unique landscape of Badlands National Park will leave the couple wondering if they’ve just visited another planet.

The tunnels on Iron Mountain Road frame Mount Rushmore National Memorial, creating a stunning view of America’s Shrine of Democracy, a must see for the two. The royal couple could even enjoy a romantic bird’s eye view of the Memorial and all of the Black Hills’ beauty from a helicopter.

If the newlyweds are up for adventure, they can try their hand at fly fishing, rock climbing, ATV riding, hiking or biking along the 109-mile Mickelson Trail. Perhaps Prince William can take Kate on her very first buffalo safari jeep ride through Custer State Park where 1,300 bison roam the 71,000 acre park.

“William and Kate, this is your official invitation to visit our Great Faces and Great Places. We’ll be glad to give you a warm South Dakota welcome,” said Hagen.
