South Dakota Scavenger's Journey
Scavenger’s Journey is coming back to Central South Dakota for its 3rd year! Participating communities on the nearly 100 mile route along old US Hwy 16 include Plankinton, White Lake, Kimball, Pukwana, Chamberlain, Oacoma, Reliance, and Presho. Communities will showcase their unique business districts, host organized antique and flea markets as well as unique programs such as the wildlife program at the Native Prairie Garden in Kimball, a quilt show at the historic Bendon Church, car and tractor shows, art exhibits, and more.
In 2013 an estimated 2500 shoppers traveled the Scavenger’s Journey route in search of great deals in new and used, cherished and abused – everything from antiques, machinery, tools, equipment, food, garden supplies, books, coins, car parts, jewelry, barn wood, dolls, tractors, toys, tins, guns, furniture, clothing, old doors, cream cans, …… the list goes on and on.
Scavenger's Journey is based on similar events around the country. For example, Nebraska's Junk Jaunt and the Kansas Treasure Hunt have successfully brought 1000's of visitors to rural areas in an effort to boost the economy and promote commerce in small communities. Scavenger’s Journey is an opportunity to entice people from all over the country to explore our area for a long weekend of shopping for unique finds old and new as well as sightseeing and sampling what our communities have to offer.
