Archeology Awareness Days

Mitchell, SD

Archeology Awareness Days, which will take place on July 6th And 7th, 2013 is one of our state's unique events, showcasing primitive technologies, early Native American games and culture. Visitors can watch as teams of archaeologists excavate a neolithic Native American village in the comfort of the Thomsen Center Archeodome. Demonstrations of flint-knapping, hide tanning, pottery making, early Native American games, spear-throwing and more will take place throughout the grounds of this National Historic Landmark. The Boehnen Memorial Museum houses artifacts found at the site and includes a full-size reconstruction of a lodge. Enjoy our picnic areas and hiking and biking trails! This event is perfect for everyone!
