Located on Highway 34 in east central South Dakota, Wessington Springs is nestled at the foot of the Wessington Hills. Once described as the place where ‘the rolling prairie meets the great plains’, the town was founded in 1880.
The town began to grow in 1903, when a branch line of the Milwaukee Road railroad was constructed into the town from the east. Today, the town houses the beautiful Shakespeare Garden, Carnegie Library and Opera House.
