Located on Highway 20 in north east South Dakota, South Shore is nestled on the south shores of two lakes: Punished Woman Lake and Round Lake. Punished Woman Lake was named by the native Sioux for a young woman killed by a tribal chief for refusing to marry him, rather than her true love. Look for the historic marker that tells this tragic, and supposedly true tale, which occurred in the late 1700s.
Today, the South Shore area offers boating, fishing and camping, and shooters will also enjoy Punished Woman Lake State Public Shooting Area.
