Fort Meade, South Dakota, located in the Black Hills near the town of Sturgis, was an active military fort from 1878 to 1944. Today, it serves as a training site for the South Dakota National Guard and as an Army National Guard Officer Candidate School.
The Fort Meade Museum displays many artifacts of the forts colorful military past, including items from General Custer and the 7th Cavalry which fought in the Battle of Little Big Horn.
