Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center

Chamberlain, SD

The Akta Lakota Museum located on the campus of St. Joseph's Indian School is more than a traditional museum; it is an experience that provides visitors with a living lesson on the Native American way of life, both past and present.

Visitors benefit from a mini-theater, interactive displays, English-Lakota descriptions, and a stunning Gift Shop featuring a unique selection of Native American made products.

Our facility is also home to our newly completed Historical & Alumni Center. Our Historical Center preserves memories and bears witness to the diversity, challenges, and accomplishments of the organization, our students, staff and benefactors of St. Joseph’s Indian School since its founding in 1927.

Additionally, we have expanded our museum space to the outdoors; our Medicine Wheel Garden area provides students, alumni and visitors a peaceful and inspirational respite from their daily routines.
